Anna Nicol

Anna Nicol was born in "Bonnie Scotland" where she trained as a Registered Nurse. She attended Bellahouston Academy, Logan and Johnson Nursing College, Yorkhill Hospital with study terms at The Western Infirmary, The Eye Infirmary, and The Queen Mother Maternity Hospital all under the auspices of the University of Glasgow.

She was working in the maternity unit of the Royal Alexandria Hospital, Paisley when she and her family immigrated to Canada thirty years ago. She arrived in Hamilton, Ontario, where she opened her own business, Westmount Children's Center.

When her family moved to Orangeville Anna became Director of Dufferin Developmental School and studied Special Education at York University. During this time her second son's diagnosis changed from Arthritis to Lupus. After his two near- death incident's during which massage was the only respite for his pain, Anna decided to resurrect her natural healing knowledge. This included Reiki levels one and two which she studied in Scotland. Receiving a combination of Reiki and massage enabled her son to achieve 9 years remission and continues to be a vital part of his daily well being.

For the next three years, as a Special Education teacher, she wrote proposals for funding to Government ministries, identifying service gaps in Dufferin County.

While continuing studies and research in Holistic health therapies, Reflexology, Reiki, Aromatherapy, Ear Candling, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Early Childhood Massage therapy and Mother/Infant holistic health, she achieved level three Reiki and was attuned as a master four times. Her holistic health practice continued over the next 9 years from her home based clinic.

In 1989 Anna was hired to represent the Ministries of Health, Education and Social Services to assess the needs of people living in nursing homes.

As Tri-Ministry Service Co-coordinator she implemented programs to assist the socio-emotional and physical well being of residents living in three Dufferin County Nursing homes.

Her next position was a pilot project for the Ministry of Health to design and implement an animal therapy and life skills program for the rehabilitation of mentally ill patients at Peace Ranch, Caledon. Once again Reiki and Reflexology were invaluable skills towards the well-being of residents and animals.

When Anna and her husband moved to Barrie, her decision was to devote her energy to a comprehensive alternative health school and treatment center — The Huronia School of Healing Arts. She has been practicing in downtown Barrie for 8 years and enjoys networking with both clients and students. At a recent reunion she said "I am humbled by the many wonderful people who touch my life, and allow me to do the work I enjoy so much".
